Algeria: photos of Algiers on show at European parliament

18 photographers capture atmosphere and traditions

(ANSAmed) - Brussels, July 11 - The city of Algiers is at the centre of a photographic exhibition at the European Parliament in Brussels. The 33 images by Algerian and European photographers capture the colours, traditions, atmosphere and architecture of the Algerian capital.

They have been selected from over 100 photographs produced during a workshop organised by the EU delegation in Algeria for 18 photographers, depicting Algiers and its rich heritage. "The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the cultural and architectural diversity and richness of Algeria, through images of landscapes, scenes of daily life, historical and religious sites," said Antonio Panzeri, president of the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Maghreb countries and organiser of the show in Brussels. "It is an opportunity to talk about a country that is going through a decisive phase in a process of democratic reforms. I am confident that it will be able to meeet the challenge." (ANSAmed).
