Mild winter aided crossings. 5,000 migrants already in country

(ANSAmed) - SARAJEVO, FEBRUARY 18 - Authorities in the Una-Sana Canton in northwestern Bosnia, located on the border with the EU country of Croatia, said there is still no coordination between state and local institutions in the face of the "illegal migration" crisis, said media sources citing Bosnian Security Minister Fahrudin Radoncic.

Estimates place the current number of illegal migrants in this part of Bosnia at about 5,000, of whom 3,500 are being hosted in reception centres and the rest are staying in private homes if they have money or, if not, in dilapidated structures in city centres.

Although the number of crimes committed by migrants continues to grow, there aren't enough funds to increase the number of police officers.

This year's mild winter facilitated illegal migrants in crossing the route towards the western Bosnian borders, resulting in an increasing number of daily arrivals, currently at about 80 on average per day.

However, the canton's president said "the worst is yet to come".(ANSAmed).
