EU commissioner Johansson to fly to Bosnia and Albania

From 18/2, Lipa camp on the agenda

    (ANSAmed) - ROMA, 16 FEB - Between Thursday and Saturday, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson will be in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania to see the situation on the ground of migrants in border areas with Croatia and Greece.

    The announcement was made by the EU executive.

    On Thursday, February 18, Johansson will stop in Bonia-Herzegovina to meet with political authorities to discuss the management of the serious migration crisis that has garnered a great deal of attention in recent months.

    The commissioner will visit the Una-Sana canton and the capital of the Bihac region to speak to the governor and mayor and visit the Lipa camp, which was destroyed on Christmas Eve and where about 1,000 people however are still living in extremely precarious conditions.

    In Lipa, the commisisoner will be accompanied by International Organization for Migration (IOM) representatives and those of other UN agencies.

    Johansson will then reach Albania, where on Saturday - after a round of meetings with government and opposition representatives - she will go to the Kakavia border crossing with Greece to assess the joint Frontex-Albania mission.
