Egypt: Minister Mahsoub resigns in protest against Morsi

Third resignation after communications minister and VP Mekki

27 December, 18:20

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, DECEMBER 27 - Egyptian Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohamed Mahsoub resigned Thursday in protest against President Mohamed Morsi, who yesterday announced a cabinet reshuffle in collaboration with Premier Hisham Qandil is in the works.

His resignation follows on that of Communications Minister of Hani Mahmoud on Tuesday, and on that of Vice President Mahmoud Mekki on December 22.

Mahsoub is a member of the moderate Islamist Wasat Party, which splintered from Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood years ago over what it said was its backward policies with respect to the rest of Egyptian society. The government's current policies do not reflect the needs of the country, Mahsoub said, adding that a cabinet reshuffle is not enough, but that the prime minister must go as well. (ANSAmed).
