(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, MAY 21 - EU Foreign Affairs Chief Catherine Ashton on Tuesday appointed Bulgarian diplomat Nataliya Apostolova to head up the EU Delegation to Libya. Apostolova is currently the EU Deputy Head of Delegation to Egypt and has previously worked in the European Commission's Directorate General for Enlargement and at the Bulgarian Permanent Representation to the EU. ''I am delighted to announce the appointment of Nataliya Apostolova to head up our delegation in Tripoli'', Ashton said in a note. ''Her talent and expertise are significant assets for the EU's external action and I look forward to working with her in support of stability and the transition to democracy in Libya''.

The EU has boosted its presence in Libya since the Arab Spring popular uprising of February 2011, opening an office in Benghazi in May 2011 and one in Tripoli the following August.

The latter officially became EU Delegation headquarters during Ashton's visit in November of that year. (ANSAmed).
