UAE makes world's biggest gas field find since 2005

4th largest gas field in Mideast

(ANSAmed) - ROME, FEBRUARY 11 - Dubai and Abu Dhabi have made what could be the world's largest natural gas discovery since 2005: up to 80 trillion cubic feet of gas resources.

The field is located in an area measuring 5,000 km2 between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and is the biggest discovery since the Galkynysh field was found in Turkmenistan 15 years ago.

The estimated resources would make it the fourth-biggest gas field in the Middle East behind Qatar's North Field, Iran's South Pars, and Abu Dhabi's Bab field. The shallow depth of the field is expected to make its use much less costly than other gas fields in the country. The news of the find comes on the heels of new discoveries in 2019 as well as the findings of natural gas and condensates by ENI in recent weeks in the Sharjah emirate. (ANSAmed).
