(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, MAY 9 - A European perspective is the
only way to avoid new wars in the region of former Yugoslavia,
said European Council President Herman Van Rompuy on the
occasion of Europe Day.
''There was a civil war in the former Yugoslavia 15 years
ago, there was even genocide, and the only chance to prevent
civil war in the future is a European perspective,'' said Van
Rompuy in a message quoted by Tanjug news agency.
''Of course,'' he added, the countries in the region ''have to meet the target and to fulfill all the conditions but their future is a European one, otherwise we could have war in Europe.'' (ANSAmed).
