Migrants: Amendola says new phase, Italy asks for substance

Says new rules on asylum needed, signs are encouraging

    (ANSAmed) - ROME, JANUARY 20 - Italian Minister for European Affairs Vincenzo Amendola, speaking at an ANSA forum, said regarding migrant management that "a new phase is opening in which Italy is asking the EU for substance".

    "Ideological debates on NGOs haven't brought results," he said.

    "We need a new rule on asylum that allows management of flows in a structural way," he said, adding that on that front there have been "promising signs" from Brussels.(ANSAmed).
