Spike Lee named jury president at Cannes Film Festival

First African-American to hold role

    (ANSAmed) - PARIS, JANUARY 14 - American director Spike Lee has been chosen as president of the jury at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival, scheduled for May 12 through May 23.

    Lee, 62, is the first African-American to hold the prestigious role, which was held last year by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Iñarritu. "When I got the call, I was shocked, happy, surprised, and proud all at the same time," said Lee in a statement.

    "I'm honored to be the first person of the African diaspora in the United States to be named president of the Cannes jury," he said.(ANSAmed).
