Lebanon: Paris says risk is country disappears

Paris relaunches appeal to form government quickly

27 August, 16:43

(ANSAmed) - PARIS, AUGUST 27 - France on Thursday relaunched its appeal for the quick formation of a government and the adoption of "urgent" reforms in Lebanon, raising the possibility of the risk that the country could "disappear".

"The risk now is the disappearance of Lebanon, so these decisions need to be made," said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, speaking on RTL. Echoing statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, who travelled to Beirut on August 6, two days after the terrible explosion, Le Drian said that reforms can't be conducted by the current political class, disliked by the Lebanese.

"They self-engulf among themselves to then unite in non-action. This is no longer possible and we are saying it strongly," he said. (ANSAmed).
