Hamas's Haniyeh to be abroad for months, no reason given

Sinwar to be in charge of Gaza Strip in his absence

23 January, 13:26

(ANSAmed) - GAZA, JANUARY 23 - Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh will be abroad for some months, said local party leader Halil al-Haya.

No reason was given for the decision. In Haniyeh's absence, his close collaborator Yihia Sinwar will be in charge, local sources say. Haniyeh left Gaza in early December to go to Cairo. He later visited Turkey, Qatar, Iran, and Malaysia. In the coming months he is expected to stay in Qatar, a country that has provided a great deal of support to Gaza.
