(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, APRIL 19 - With the approval of UN resolution 2042 on Syria, Russia "has shown its attention to the extreme humanitarian needs in the country" and has shown itself to be "an effective partner in the search for a way to end violence and carry out checks on the ground that the ceasefire can hold," Giulio Terzi has said. The Italian Foreign Minister was speaking during a meeting in Brussels between Russia and NATO.

Speaking ahead of a bilateral meeting in Moscow tomorrow, Terzi said that it would be "interesting to hear the assessments of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov," on how the implementation of the plan established in the resolution is progressing on the ground. "We are hoping in particular for an end to hostilities from all sides, and checks, especially of Assad's forces, based on the plan established in the resolution, which accepts proposals made by the Arab League," Terzi said.
