Italy-Yemen: Sanaa 'optimistic about future'

National dialogue moving forward, Italian investment expected

24 June, 19:56

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 24 - In his opening remarks at the Italy-Yemen Business Meeting underway in Rome, Yemen's ambassador to Italy, Khalid Al Akwa, said that national dialogue was making headway and that the country was looking towards the future with confidence. The meeting was organised by Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo in collaboration with the Italian Foreign Ministry and the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE).

''A single incident in one area of the country cannot compromise the entire security of the country,'' he said. ''We need to get to know each other better and to convey to the public accurate information about our countries,'' the diplomat said in speaking to an audience of Italian and Yemeni businessmen in the Italian capital, here to explore investment opportunities in Italy and to make the country's potential better known. ''In order to take advantage of the opportunities both in Yemen and in Italy,'' he continued, ''an open attitude and information exchange are required.'' Al Akwa said that Yemen has received bad publicity but has a large amount of undiscovered economic potential, ranging from energy (oil & gas), to fish, agrofood, infrastructure and tourism. ''Many international companies,'' he noted, ''have begun operating in Yemen for activities in the oil and gas sector. The United States, China and some European countries are already there. We are now waiting for Italians to make their way there as well.''(ANSAmed).
