(ANSAmed) - ROME - The Italian Jesuit priest Paolo Dall'Oglio, who has been missing in Syria since July 28, may be being held by an "Islamic group, a local branch of Al Qaida," Italy's foreign minister, Emma Bonino, said on Tuesday.

Still, the minister said that she was "confident" he would be returned, despite the "many difficulties".

Activists who accompanied the priest to Syria said last Wednesday that Dall'Oglio had not been kidnapped, but had chosen to remain silent while he negotiated with jihadists. (ANSAmed).
