12 November, 17:12

(ANSAmed) - PALERMO, NOVEMBER 12 - Libyan General Khalifa Haftar, the strongman of Cyrenaica, is expected in Palermo where a Conference for Libya is opening on Monday night, Libyan sources in Palermo have told ANSA.

''I expect Haftar to be present'', Italian Premier Giuseppe Conte told Turin daily La Stampa in a front-page article. ''His vision certainly does not coincide with that of president Sarraj'', the prime minister also said, but ''Mandela has observed that 'compromise is the art of leadership and compromises are made with adversaries, not with friends''.

Egyptian president, Andel Fattah Al Sisi, will also attend the conference, according to Egypt's State broadcaster.

''President Sis is going today to the Italian city of Palermo for a two-day official visit'', read a banner on television.

''He must participate in a summit of leaders interested in the Libyan dossier, at the invite of Italian Premier'' Giuseppe Conte. (ANSAmed)
