Sinai Attack: air raids, 26 militants killed

8 soldiers wounded, 4 Apache helicopters in action

08 August, 14:14

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, AUGUST 8 - Twenty-six alleged militants were killed and 8 soldiers injured in the air raids made at dawn by Egyptian aviation against positions of suspected jihadists.

Security sources explained that the raid was carried out by four "Apache" helicopters, one of which has hit three vehicles, killing six people, while another has killed twenty more during raids in northern Sinai, Rafah and Sheikh Zuwied. This has taken place after the assault of a border post last Sunday, in which 16 Egyptian guards got killed. The area is now sealed. Security forces have locked 'indefinitely' the valley of Watir, which connects Nuweiba to the Sinai, as announced by the governor of North Sinai Khaled Fouda. Egypt has not started the demolition of the tunnels that link Rafah to Gaza. (ANSAmed).
