Kosovo: More troops against escalation of violence, NATO

(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, 25 APRIL - Additional NATO troops will "soon" be deployed in Kosovo, as a response to "a possible increase in violence'', NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu stated. During a press conference in Brussels, Lungescu also confirmed that the 700 troops (550 of them are German and 150 are Austrian) leaving for Kosovo will ensure that the NATO forces on the field "is strong enough to ensure security and stability" in the region, "as was the case in the past 10 years". The decision to send new troops is based on "the assessment of security" in Kosovo, taking into consideration that next May 6th Serbian elections are approaching. (ANSAmed).
