In southern Lebanon, a dusting of snow settled on Beaufort castle, the scene of an epic 1982 battle between Israeli forces and Palestinian guerrilla fighters.
In the north the snow hit as far as the coastal town of Batroun.
And while forecasts say that the weather should pick up by Thursday, on Tuesday schools were officially closed for two days.
The rivers Al Kabir and Al Istwan in the northern province of Akkar burst their banks yesterday, causing damage to crops and leaving several villages without electricity.
Further south, the river Hasbani overflowed, while in the suburb of Hay al Selloum in south Beirut over 50cm of water gushed from the river Al Ghadir. On the mountains overlooking the Bekaa valley some villages were cut off due to snow. (ANSAmed).
