(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, NOVEMBER 16 - The appointment is today in Gammarth with the International conference on the ''MED-PHARES'' project funded by the European Union. Born in 2014, the international network was aimed at devising strategies to preserve, recuperate and exploit lighthouses and light stations and turn this heritage into a worldwide attraction.

The project involves France (with the lights of La Mortella and La Pietra, in Corsica, and the lighthouse Grand Rouveau), Tunisia (islands La Galite, Zembra and Zembretta), Lebanon (lighthouse city of Tiro) and Sardinia (with the three pilot light stations of Sant'Elia-Cagliari, Sant'Antioco and Asinara).

The involvement of citizens is fundamental for the success of the European Union's initiative. The program in fact vies to start processes of participation and sharing with local interests.

The conference of Tunis, focused on defining strategies for the project MED-PHARES, is organized by APAL (Agence de protection et aménagement du Littoral), a public agency in charge of the management of Tunisian maritime state properties and the preservation of beaches and ecosystems in the North African country.
