(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, MARCH 30 - A total of 156 pro-Turkish Syrian militants have died in Libya in the past two months, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

It said in the past 24 hours, the bodies of five fighters who died in the ongoing battle around Tripoli were sent back to Syria.

The fighting is taking place between the forces of General Khalifa Haftar, backed by Russia and Egypt, and those of the government in Tripoli, backed by Turkey and recognised by the United Nations.

SOHR said in recent weeks Turkey has sent 4,750 Syrian mercenaries to the Libyan front, while another 1,900 were transferred to training camps in Turkey to await airlifts to Libya.

Previously, various Syrian sources confirmed the existence of transfers of Syrian mercenaries to the Libyan front by Russia as well, to support Haftar's forces.(ANSAmed).
