Malta has EU's highest number of healthy life years

Italy in 6th place for women, 5th for men

    BRUSSELS - Residents in Malta live the longest in good health out of all other European Union countries, according to figures from European statistics agency Eurostat.
    It said among EU member states in 2018, Malta recorded the highest number of healthy life years for women (73.4 years), followed by Sweden (72.0 years) and Ireland (70.4 years); while the highest numbers for men were recorded in Sweden (73.7), Malta (71.9) and Ireland (68.4).
    The EU average is 64.2 healthy life years for women and 63.7 for men.
    Italy is in sixth place among EU countries for women (66.9 healthy life years) and in fifth place for men (66.8).
