(ANSAmed) - MADRID, MARCH 4 - The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) on Tuesday announced its 'Women's socio-economic empowerment: projects for progress' conference will take place March 26 and 27 at its Barcelona headquarters.

Participants will discuss ways to promote and finance integration and gender equality projects aimed at involving Mediterranean women in their societies and economies.

The conference will try to enact political commitments made in the final declaration of the third ministerial conference of UfM member countries on how to empower women in society, which was held in Paris on September 11. Objectives include identifying priority initiatives that will empower women in Mediterranean social economies; promoting relationships between key Euro-Mediterranean players, institutional and financial aid givers, and specific projects; and submitting regional projects to the UfM secretariat, to be discussed at the Barcelona conference.

The UfM is a multilateral partnership of 43 countries from Europe and the Mediterranean Basin: the 28 member states of the European Union and 15 Mediterranean partner countries from North Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans.(ANSAmed).
