(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, JUNE 12 - Qatar announced a new sea transport route for merchandise with Oman in an attempt to alleviate the consequences of the blockade on its land borders with Saudi Arabia and on its sea and air connections from Riyadh, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, according to pan-Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera citing Qatar Ports Management.

The direct connection between the Qatari port of Hamad and the Omani port of Sohar will operate three times a week.

In a press conference, Qatar Ports Management said the decision was made "to mitigate the impact of any action that would affect the imports and exports to and from the country".

Iran and Turkey recently announced initiatives to replenish food supplies to Qatar, which had previously imported most of its food requirements from Saudi Arabia.(ANSAmed).
