Mission in Doha to mediate crisis and limit Iran's influence

(ANSAmed) - ROME, OCTOBER 23 - US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said nobody can afford for the ongoing Gulf crisis to continue, during a meeting in Doha with the emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Tillerson stated that it is very important for the Gulf Cooperation Council to continue to seek unity.

The secretary of state said the Council is much more effective when it is united and nobody can afford for this dispute to continue, according to Doha newspaper Gulf Times.

Before travelling to Doha to mediate for a solution to the crisis among Gulf countries - which was sparked by charges that Doha is too close to Iran and supports terrorism - Tillerson travelled to Riyadh for an economic forum aimed at improving economic relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

The objective of Tillerson's mission to the Gulf is to limit Iran's influence in the region. (ANSAmed)
