Tourism: Istanbul to host East Mediterranean fair

(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, FEBRUARY 7 - Istanbul city will host the East Mediterranean International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (EMITT) between February 9 and 12, as reported by Anatolia news agency. 4,500 participants from over 60 countries will attend the fair which grew 15% when compared to last year. The fair will be held on an area of 60,500 square meters. EMITT is the world's fifth biggest tourism fair. Argentina, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Malaysia, Slovenia and Venezuela will attend the fair for the first time this year, while Italy will be represented on ministerial level for the first time. Besides countries; development agencies, travel agencies, tourism operators, hotels as well as more than 150 hamlets and provinces will attend the fair. Ekin Fair Corp.'s Director General Hacer Aydin said that the number of tourists visiting Turkey increased 10% and reached 31.5 million in 2011 when compared to 2010.

German tourists preferred Turkey most, and followed by Russian tourists, added Aydin. Aydin said that Turkey was the 7th leading country in the world in the aspect of number of tourists it hosted, while it was the 9th in the aspect of the income it earned from tourism. (ANSAmed).
