07 February, 14:11

(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 7 - The death toll of the freezing temperatures in Serbia rose to 11 this morning, when a woman was fatally hit by large slabs of ice and snow falling from a roof. The tragic accident, the Interior Ministry reports, took place in the Vozdovac district. The woman died shortly after 10 am despite receiving health assistance. Meanwhile, the authorities are freeing the most important rivers from ice, starting with the Danube, which is frozen over for around 100 km in Serbia territory. Explosives are set to be used to blow up the blocks of ice. Around 70 thousand people are isolated in villages and small towns in Serbia, cut off because the roads cannot be used due to snow and ice.
