EU concerned over Serbian anti-COVID measures

'Use of force must be proportional'

09 July, 17:35

(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, JULY 9 - A spokesperson for the European Commission said Thursday that the latest developments in Serbia had given rise to concern.

The spokesperson noted that protecting people's health must be the top priority and that it was up to the government to decide what measures are necessary but that these measures must not negatively affect fundamental rights and liberties in a disproportionate manner and that they must be limited in time.

The spokesperson added that this was true also for peaceful protests and that public order had to be ensured but that the use of force should be balanced and proportionate. (ANSA).
