09 January, 17:55

(ANSAmed) - LJUBLJANA, JANUARY 9 - Millionaire Zoran Jankovic, mayor of Ljubljana and one-time entrepreneur, has today announced success in forming a preliminary coalition for a new government of Slovenia. The line will include Jankovic's Positive Slovenia Party, which won the elections held one month ago, and another three centre and centre-left formations.

Mr Jankovic, who was charged with forming a new government just last week, stated today that the leaders of the three parties had accepted a proposed coalition agreement: ''even though some issues remain open, which we shall discuss over the coming days''. Alongside Positive Slovenia, which obtained 28.5 percent of the vote in the election, the Social Democrats under outgoing premier Borut Pahor, the independent list under liberal centrist Gregor Virant and the Pensioners Party make up the coalition grouping.

On Wednesday this week Parliament is due to vote its confirmation of Jankovic's nomination - there will then follow a period of two weeks during which the new government should be announced and a vote of confidence be held. (ANSAmed).
