(ANSAmed) - ROME, DECEMBER 28 - Pietro Sebastiani has been named
the new Italian ambassador to Madrid. The nomination, recently
decided by the Council of Ministers, was announced today by the
Foreign Ministry after the acceptance by the government
concerned.
Born in 1957, Sebastiani earned his degree in Political Science
from the University of Florence in 1981 and began his diplomatic
career in 1984. His first position at the ministry was at the
Directorate-General for Cultural Relations. In 1986 he was
posted to Moscow, while in 1988 he became Vice Consul in New
York, to then go on to become Associate Consul there in 1990.
Beginning in 1997 he held his third post abroad at Italy's
Permanent Diplomatic Representation at UNESCO in Paris and in
December 2000 he was assigned to Brussels as First Counselor.
From 2001 to 2006 he served at the Chamber of Deputies as
Diplomatic Counselor to the Chamber Speaker.
Since 2008 he has been head of the permanent UN mission in
Rome.(ANSAmed).
