(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, APRIL 2 - Syrian first lady Asma al-Assad on Tuesday appeared in a 14-minute video while welcoming twenty mothers of government army ''martyrs'' to the presidential palace in Damascus.

Uploaded on the Syrian presidential office website, the video also contains statements by mothers of soldiers who lost their lives during the two-year uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

In the video, the first lady smiles while welcoming and hugging the mothers, who smile back at her.

''You have shown that while your children are one of the things you love most, you love your country even more. They died defending their country and their fatherland'', the first lady says in a speech to the women. She then serves some of the mothers at a buffet in their honor, and poses for a group photo. The video ends with a choir singing the Syrian national anthem, as the camera focuses on a monument to an unknown soldier.

The video was recorded on March 21, which is mother's day in Syria, and will air tonight after the evening news at 8:30pm local time, the presidential site said. (ANSAmed).
