And to adhere to OPCW in order to avoid US strike

(ANSAmed) - MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 9 - Moscow has asked Syria to place its chemical arsenal under international control if this will avoid a military strike, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters at a joint news briefing with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem on Monday.

''We are asking the Syrian government to put its chemical weapons deposits under international control, to then destroy those weapons and to adhere fully to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW),'' said Lavrov. ''We hope for a speedy and positive response.'' This follows on a similar proposal US Secretary of State John Kerry made earlier today.(ANSAmed).
