(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, APRIL 8 - A delegation of the PLO travelled to Damascus to meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad to discuss how to prevent ISIS from maintaining control over the refugee camp of Yarmou, where thousands of Palestinians live, after the most recent developments. The head of the PLO delegation, Ahmad Majdalani, was quoted by Ramallah's media as saying that the meeting was ''good and the Syrians understood the most important issues to confront the tragedy of Yarmouk''.

For Majdalani, the sides agreed to ''continue with humanitarian aid.including opening up security passages and setting up safe havens for those still living in the camp''.

The PLO delegation's chief said ''fighting is expanding, which means ISIS does not control the camp, as it did in the past. On the contrary, over the past 48 hours, the Palestinian factions have succeeded in halting the progress of ISIS inside the camp. Some 30-35% of Yarmouk has been freed from the Islamic State's control''.

Majdalani stressed the support of the PLO for the Syrian government and its positions, noting that ''the main issue in fighting ISIS is supporting the Syrian government''. (ANSAmed)
