(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, DECEMBER 5 - About 700 civilians have been taken to safety in eastern Syria by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from Islamic State (ISIS) territory, Syrian Kurdish media reported on Wednesday.

The forces have for weeks been involved in an operation against an area of ISIS resistance near the Iraqi border. The media outlets quote military sources from the SDF - which receive support from the anti-ISIS, US-led international coalition and directly from the US army - fighting in eastern Syria. It is impossible to independently verify the news from the operation in eastern Syria. The SDF are advancing on Hejin, alongside the Euphrates River, the epicenter of the area still in ISIS hands. Over the past 24 hours, the coalition air forces have stepped under their bombing of the area and the sources say that the SDF are near Hejin. (ANSAmed).
