Syria: Turkey says positive results from Astana talks

Cavusoglu, ceasefire is holding, and we deal with constitution

06 December, 11:17

(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, DECEMBER 6 - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said that, ''if in Syria there is still a ceasefire, despite violations, if we can talk about a constitutional commission, this is all thanks to the process of Astana and Sochi''.

Cavusoglu called ''unpleasant'' the words of US President Donald Trump's special envoy to Syria, James Jeffrey, who had expressed the wish to go beyond negotiations in Astana between Turkey, Russia and Iran to exclusively focus on UN-sponsored talks in Geneva.

''Turkey did not allow Astana and Sochi to become an alternative to the process in Geneva. International legitimation is key'', but ''nothing happened in Geneva, no step was made on these issues, not even a real meeting'', added the Turkish foreign minister''. (ANSAmed)
