Kurdish-Syrian forces backed by the US have conquered a key city in eastern Syria, an ISIS stronghold close to the border, UK-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports.

The organization said that Syrian Democratic Forces, a coalition of Kurdish and Arab Syrian forces led by the local wing of the PKK and supported by the United States, have taken control of Hajin, a town along the Euphrates and at the center of the area held by the so-called 'Islamic State' in eastern Syria. Kurdish forces and the anti-ISIS Coalition led by the US have been carrying out an offensive against Hajin for weeks.
