(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, JANUARY 8 - Over 30 Kurdish militants
close to the US have been killed in a counteroffensive carried
out by ISIS in eastern Syria, the UK-based monitoring group
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Tuesday morning.
According to the NGO, the 'Islamic State' over the past few hours has counter-attacked the area of Abukamal, where it is resisting against an offensive by US-backed Kurdish-Syrian forces.
The organization said 32 Kurdish-Syrian fighters were killed.
The report cannot be independently verified on the ground.
The observatory said that about 10 ISIS militants were also killed. The death toll, however, is expected to rise because militants from both sides have been seriously injured, the monitoring group reports.
ISIS is fighting in its last area of resistance in Abukamal.
After Kurdish-Syrian forces advanced last month, a few hundreds ISIS militants have been defending two areas, Baghuz and Suse, between Abukamal and the border with Iraq. (ANSAmed)
