(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, JANUARY 9 - The Tunisian Association for the Struggle Against Torture (ALTT) under the lawyer Radhia Nasraoui has urged the government to officially eliminate the death penalty from the Tunisian Penal Code. The death sentence has not been carried out for many years in the country. There are currently 93 detainees on death row in Tunisian jails.

The last death sentences were carried out by hanging in 1990, according to the French-language weekly Tunis Hebdo. (ANSAmed).
