(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, JUNE 21 - The electoral campaign in Istanbul is drawing to a close ahead of a rerun Sunday of mayoral elections following the controversial cancellation of the victory of Chp opposition candidate Ekrem Imamoglu.

According to the majority of surveys, his margin against the candidate of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Akp party, ex premier Binali Yildirim, has increased compared to the 13,729 additional votes that led him to an initial victory in administrative elections on March 31, after a recount of ballots that lasted nearly 20 days.

His victory was subsequently scrapped by the Supreme Electoral Board (YSK) of Ankara after the Akp appealed the win over alleged irregularities. Imamoglu on Friday is holding rallies across the city.

Yildirim will talk this afternoon in a speech to be broadcast live by five local radios.
