French ex-premier breaks leg in Capri motorcycle accident

(ANSA) - Rome, July 30 - France's ex-prime minister Francois Fillon broke his left leg in a motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon while vacationing in Capri.

Fillon, who was prime minister until May under president Nicholas Sarkozy, took a bad spill after tooling around the island near Naples with Ferrari chairman and high profile business executive Luca di Montezemolo. Fillon is known enthusiast of fast motors and high speed.

The 58 year old French politician was first taken by helicopter to the Roman private hospital Villa Stuart - known for its VIP patients - where surgeons operated on his leg.

Other famous patients of Villa Stuart include professional football stars Francesco Totti, Alessandro Nesta and Philippe Mexes.

Luca di Montezemolo flew by helicopter to visit Fillon at the Roman hospital Monday morning.

Fillon's hospitalization is expected to last a few days.
