(by Alessandra Antonelli) (ANSAmed) - DUBAI, SEPTEMBER 11 - The organisers of the Genoa Boat Show have been in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to present the historic Italian nautical event and explore further opportunities for cooperation and investment in the Middle East.
Italy and the UAE already have a long history of cooperation in the nautical sector and Italian imports currently represent 14% of the total, second only to those coming from the United States (17%). In March the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade received the 'World of Yacht recognition award' for its 20-year involvement in the Dubai International Boat Show, now at the forefront of nautical exhibitions in the region. The same month saw the formal launch of Etihad Ship Bulding, a joint venture shipyard with Italy's Fincantieri, Abu Dhabi's Al-Fattan Ship Industries and Dubai's Melara Middle East to build, refit and carry out maintenance of stealth warships for the UAE and Gulf region navies.
"I like to think tthat the Genoa show provided a source of inspiration for the Dubai International Boat Show, which has become a point of reference for the international nautical industry," said Sara Armella, president of Genoa Trade Fair.
"Our aim is clear: to combine business and passion in the name of excellence," she added. Cooperation between the Genoese trade fair organiser and the World Trade Center in Dubai could extend to other sectors including floriculture, shipping and logistics and typical regional food products. "At a time when the Italian market is suffering, looking overseas becomes unavoidable," concluded Armella.
