(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, OCTOBER 3 - The governor of Sardinia,
Ugo Cappellacci, was confirmed for another one-year mandate as
president of the Islands Commission at the 40th Conference of
Peripheral and Maritime Regions of Europe (CPRM) general
assembly on Wednesday in Biaystok, Poland.
''This is an important role in claiming more resources and
filling the gaps that arise from disadvantaged geographical
locations,'' said Cappellacci, who also elected to the two-year
post of vice president of the Intermediterranean Commission.
''My commitment in favor of the island regions continues. This is all the more important now, when negotiations on the EU 2014-2020 budget are ongoing.'' European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn and Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget Janusz Lewandowski were also present at the CPRM assembly.
Next on Cappellacci's European agenda is a November 5-6 visit to Cyprus, where he will preside over an Islands Commission general assembly and take part in an informal European Council meeting on cohesion. (ANSAmed).
