(ANSAmed) - Cagliari, January 21 - A network of Mediterranean protected areas with humid climates will connect Italy to Spain, and in particular Sardinia, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Valencia to help the economy and safeguard the environment. The idea to create an liaison of three regional parks in Molentargius Saline in Cagliari, Delta del Po and Maremma in Tuscany and Albufera in Spain was launched in Cagliari during a congress on 'Una rete di aree protette nel Golfo degli Angeli' (a network of protected areas in the Gulf of the Angels).

The congress saw experts debate on development opportunities for areas with humid climates with the objective of 'connecting the safeguard of the territory and biodiversity with the promotion of environmentally sustainable tourism as humid areas which must be safeguarded, with bans and rules also bringing development and labour ', explained Sebastiano Venneri, president of the association Vivilitalia. The summit took place in the factory of Sali Scelti where the offices of the Park Molentargius Saline are based. Around the building are 1,400 hectares of land, the home of the former salt factory and rare species including thousands of greater flamingos who chose to nest in Italy for the first time in 1993 - there were 7000 in 2011. 'The impact with Molentargius was moving, I was enchanted by the extraordinary nature', said Massimo Medri, president of the regional park Delta del Po. (ANSAmed)
