(ANSAmed) - PALERMO, JANUARY 22 - Applications for the 8th ''Sun Moon'' international documentary film festival in Palermo, opened Tuesday.

This 2013 edition of the festival, which runs between 16-22 September, has a Tunisian twist: documentaries screened in Palermo will be screened at the same time in Tunis, in the Dar Bach Hamba palace, home to Tunisia's Orestiadi Foundation.

The festival is organised by ''Sun Moon, a bridge between cultures'', in collaboration with Palermo's Goethe Institut, as well as, this year, the Sicily Queer Film Fest, the Sicily Environment Festival, and Sorsi Corti. The Dok Leipzig International Festival Fest, the first independent film festival in East Germany, founded in 1955 will also feature. Amongst other events on the billing is the ''Sun Luna Cinema Souk'', a platform dedicated to the distribution and birth of co-productions. After eight years of hard work, the festival has been able to forge connections between European distribution and production companies, as well as create partnerships with non-European companies.
