24 migrants test positive for COVID-19 on quarantine ship

603 onboard, 70% Tunisians

    TRAPANI - Some 24 of the migrants quarantined on the GNV Azzurra ship harboured in Trapani have tested positive for COVID-19.
    Six other cases are suspected and those affected are being treated as if they had the virus.
    All are non-EU citizens, mostly Tunisians that were taken on the ship from Lampedusa.
    They had landed on the largest of the Pelagie Islands and had been temporarily lodged in the Imbriacola hotspot.
    Onboard the ship, leased by the interior ministry to quarantine migrants disembarking on Italian coasts, are 603 people, 70% of whom Tunisian nationals. The rest are families of sub-Saharan origins with women and children.
    The Red Cross are taking care of the migrants.
