(ANSAmed) - ROMA, APRIL 17 - Maria Sandra Mariani, the
Italian woman who was kidnapped on February 2 2011 by armed men
in the southern desert of Algeria, has been released. The news
was confirmed by Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi after an
earlier report by Al Arabiya television
''Maria Sandra Mariani is free. I have just informed her
relatives of the news. I join her family in their great relief
over this wonderful news,'' said Terzi.
The Sardinian aid-worker Rossella Urru was kidnapped in
Algeria as well but has not been freed yet.
''I sincerely thank all those who have contributed to the
positive result of this affair with much dedication,
perseverance and professionalism,'' added the Italian FM.
Maria Sandra Mariani, 54 years old, born in San Casciano Val
di Pesa (Florence), was the Italian hostage who was in the hands
of her kidnappers for the longest period of time. (ANSAmed).
