Literature: Macedonian novelist Smilevski awarded Med prize

For Sigmund Freud's Sister, translated into 30 languages

(ANSAmed) - ROME, OCTOBER 1 - The Italian ministry of culture and the Carical foundation on Monday awarded the Mediterranean culture prize to Macedonian writer Goce Smilevski for his novel Sigmund Freud's Sister.

Past winners of the prize, which was awarded in a ceremony in Cosenza, in Calabria, include Moroccan author Tahar Ben Zhelun, Israeli novelist Amos Oz, and French-Lebanese author Amin Malouf.

Sigmund Freud's Sister has been translated into 30 languages.

It was published in Italy by Guanda in 2011, with a preface by Davide Fanciullo. With this novel, Smilevski also won the EU Literature Prize in 2010. (ANSAmed).
