Event in her honor on March 21 in new City of Culture

15 March, 12:39

TUNIS - Italian actress Claudia Cardinale, known as the ''most beautiful Italian in Tunis'', her birth city, will inaugurate on March 21 the Tunisian film library inside the capital's Cité de la Culture, which will be presented to the public on the same day.

Cardinale grew up in the Italian community in Tunis - where she was born to Italian parents of Sicilian origin - in a country which was still under French protectorate. She was noticed in 1957 after being elected the ''most beautiful Italian in Tunis'', winning a trip to the Venice film festival to start a career in the movies.

She debuted at a very young age in ''Goha'' by Jacques Baratier (1957), before she moved to Rome with her family to attend the film school Centro Sperimentale fi Cinematografia.

Her career was launched by Mario Monicelli's film I Soliti Ignoti (1958).

To honor Cardinale, the film library on March 21-25 will screen a number of films in which she stars including Luchino Visconti's Il Gattopardo and Valerio Zurlini's La Ragazza con la Valigia, and an exhibit showcasing photos and posters.
