(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, AUGUST 8 - Preparations are underway in Egypt for the debut of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida in Luxor, in the south.

The executive director of the event, Nevin Wassef, has illustrated in Cairo the details of the two performances scheduled to take place on October 26 and 28, which are expected to attract 4,000 tourists from around the world.

The event, added Wassef, represents a way to relaunch Luxor, where the opera will be staged once again after 22 years. In 1997, 67 people died in a bloody terror attack on the Egyptian archaeological site. The objective, organizers said, is to show the world that the area is safe. The performance, among other things, will be staged amid celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Suez Canal, an event indirectly connected to the composition of the opera. The Aida will be staged in an area in front of the funerary Temple of Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut near the spectacular vertical rocks of Deir el-Bahari, on the western bank of the Nile near the Valley of the Kings. The director explained that dancers will perform inside the temple with special sound and light effects to give viewers the impression they are part of the event. The event will be directed by Germany filmmaker Micheal Sturm, with an orchestra of 80 musicians of the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Ukraine, directed by Oksana Lyniv, the first director of the Graz opera house in Austria. Aida will be performed by Korean soprano Sae Kyung Rim while Belgian tenor Mickael Spadaccini will be Radames.

Over 37 tour companies are collaborating with 33 hotels and other facilities for the event. Hotels in Luxor, where prices have surged since the performance was announced, are all booked up. (ANSAmed).
