POTENZA - The show "Mediterranean Contemporary Art Prize: The Way Through Lucania" will debut January 24 and run through March 7 at the Casa di Giotto museum in Vicchio, in the province of Florence.

It will showcase works by winning artists from the first edition of the international contemporary art biennial created by the Porta Coeli Foundation in Avigliano in the province of Potenza at Lagopesole Castle in 2019, as well as an anthology of the Basilicata artist Antonio Masini, who died on December 21, 2018.

The show was presented during a press conference attended by Basilicata Governor Vito Bardi, Basilicata Regional Council President Carmine Cicala, Basilicata Culture Councillor Dina Sileo, and Basilicata Tourism Board (APT) Director General Antonio Nicoletti.

Representatives from local and regional institutions in Tuscany also attended via video conference.

The show was prepared in partnership with the Basilicata APT and the support of the Region of Basilicata, the Region of Tuscany, the National Union of Local Tourism Boards (UNPLI) and the City of Vicchio.

The exhibition includes the works of 10 national and international artists who won first or second prize in the categories of sculpture and installation, photography, painting, digital art, and design and graphic art.

The show ends with a section dedicated to the art of Masini, a post-WWII Basilicata artist.

Basilicata governor Bardi said the show has "great cultural and artistic value".

"We must encourage an interest in culture, and this initiative is the first phase of a partnership between Basilicata and Tuscany, with the artistic osmosis of the two regions and a selection of artists forming the basis for future shows to promote the regions' heritage," Bardi said.
