Tripoli celebrates ninth anniversary of revolution

20 February, 14:53

People in Tripoli celebrated in the capital's squares and streets the ninth anniversary of the February 17 2011 revolution, despite clashes taking place just kilometers away. Meanwhile, forces led by General Khalifa Haftar continue to bomb and target multiple locations in the city.

Ahmed Al-Taher, a photographer from Sebratha, said, "It is a people's revolution, and after nine years of sacrifices for the sake of the revolution, I do not think that people want to go back and return to the rule of the individual. After these sacrifices, they will not be satisfied with going back, they will continue to make the revolution successful".

Adel Mohamed, a Libyan citizen from Tripoli, said, "Regarding the aggression against Tripoli and the western region, the consequences include displacements, people being killed and wounded, and the sacrifices of Tripoli and the western region.

But we have adapted as we struggle, resist and die for it, because it is our revolution and we will be better in the future.'' (STORY AND PHOTOS BY ZUHAIR ABUSREWIL).
